Oh Maria! Mary Katrantzou for Topshop final images

Hello world, You all know I’ve been looking forward to the Mary Katrantzou for Topshop collection for quite a while now. She is one of the most exciting print designers around and the fact that she’s British makes her even more cool in my eyes. Well I’ve been waiting with …

Versace for H&M Cruise Collection; first images

Hello world,

Has everyone sufficiently gotten over the first Versace for H&M collection yet? Good, because they’ve just launched the first images of the upcoming cruise collection, launching on the 19th January.

This Versace for H&M collection is more of a capsule collection and unfortunately will only be available online in the UK, Sweden, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands and Denmark, although a little birdie told me it’ll come into the H&M concession store in Selfridges!

Here are the images;

What do you guys think? I’m not too big a fan of it, to be honest. The springtime fruit print is cute, but the dresses are average and the swimwear looks too simplistic for my liking, although knowing me I’ll be in love with the collection by the time it launches online. I do love the accessories and the jewellery. The bracelet is adorable and I prefer the belt in that print than the lurid pink of the main collection.

As always, I’d love to hear your opinion.

Until then,

The Carey Mulligan cover that keeps on giving

The Carey Mulligan cover that keeps on giving

Hello world,

This is an interesting piece of news. When the November issue of French Elle was released the fashion crowd started wondering if they had seen the image before.

In fact it was fashionista.com and and styleite.com that noticed the similarity. In fact the original image had been first used by US Vogue for their October 2010 issue, when they featured Carey Mulligan for the first time. They were shot by famed fashion photographer Peter Lindbergh, just after he came back from his 18 year hiatus.

It’s somewhat normal to reuse shoots for different magazines under the same publishing house. This is quite common as cover shoots are expensive and time consuming, as we can see with German Glamour using the same image for their December 2010 issue.

But then why did the same image show up on the cover of French Elle over a year later, on the cover of not only a rival magazine but part of a rival publishing house. Vogue and Glamour are part of Condé Nast, while Elle is part of Hachette Filippachi.

So how did that happen? While fashionista asked whether the move was legal, I personally think it’s more likely that the photographer kept the rights to the images and sold them on to those magazines who wanted them.

What do you think about this whole scenario?

Until then,

Dior Couture in weighty tome confection

Hello world,

So I’m sure you’re all well aware of the new fashion coffee table book that’s just hit the shops. I’m not usually one for paying much attention to these types of book, what with them being ridiculously heavy and far too expensive for my liking, but this one’s a real treat.

It’s the new Dior Couture book done in collaboration with Patrick Demarchelier. He in itself is an amazing fashion photographer, but to hear he’s photographed my favourite couture house is a double bonus. These brand new photos highlight the couture pieces from this house’s archives in ways that really bring a freshness to the house of Dior’s long and illustrious career.

So here are some of my favourite images from the book, and in case you’re reading this Mum/boyfriend; this would look really great on my coffee table!

So which one is your favourite? Mine is the image with the aquamarine tulle creation where Galliano based his entire collection on florals. It was my favourite ever couture show and my favourite image now.

The Theft of Marc Jacobs

The Theft of Marc Jacobs

Hello world,

This one is a shocker. It seems that the entire Marc Jacobs spring/summer 2012 collection has been stolen in transit from Paris to London.

The collection, which hasn’t even gone into production yet was stolen, as it was brought to London for a press viewing today, the PR team for Marc Jacobs announced today.

While it’s no doubt a blow to Marc Jacobs and his PR team, the biggest disappointment will be for all the fashion editors hoping to loan the clothes out for shoots.

Boy this is gonna get interesting!

Until then,

Snow Shoes; taking the term drug mules to a whole new level

Snow Shoes; taking the term drug mules to a whole new level

Hello world,

I’ve been sick the last week and because I’ve been sleeping sixteen hours a day I’ve annoyingly missed out on a very entertaining fashion story.

20111112-140256.jpg

Did anybody hear in the news of some very inventive Columbian drug smugglers turning cocaine into a paste and moulding them into Manolo Blahnik shoes, complete with their very own label?

I mean as if shoes weren’t addictive enough. The drug Manolos cost a reported €50,000, which is a heck of a lot more to spend on shoes than your average designer pair.

Still you gotta give it to those drug smugglers. They might be horrible people with an awful career, but they sure have an imagination!

Until then,

Franzi
