Welcome to something new I’m doing for this website. This is my lookbook for the spring/summer trends that you need to know, how best to style them and what shops do which trends the best!
Excited? You should be!
This has been a labour of love for the last 6 weeks, and something I’m incredibly excited about and proud to show off. I’ve worked in and around the fashion industry for so many years, both as an insider, in retail and as a consumer of all things fashion-related. It’s a bit of a surprise I’ve never done a lookbook before. Sure, I’ve helped work on them for magazines in the past, but it’s kinda surprising I’ve never done one here before.
It also perfectly aligns with my desire to do more studio shoots, to focus more on video and completely change how I present my content. It’s all about making this so much more professional and moving away from a haphazard hobby. It’s about giving this site purpose.
Kinda like what a lookbook does. Brands, shops and fashion magazines bring out their own variations of lookbooks for every season. They are to showcase a collection, highlight the main trends, and give industry insiders and shoppers a taste of what is to come. It’s an angle within the fashion media I’ve not ever gone near. My editorial shoots have always been about some abstract concept, or beautiful idea or items of clothing. I’ll shoot an item that’s been in my wardrobe for years next to something that’s just been released. None of it has ever really been about how to copy my ideas or styles, or where best to find these pieces. Sure I always link to where you can purchase the items on my shoots, but it has always been an after-thought.
Not any more, and that is not the purpose of this lookbook. This is me taking the over 20 spring trends that are floating around, picking out the best and showing you how to style them. I’ll show you what they’re inspired by and what shops cover which trend in the most-unique way. I’ve also shot in video; which is another first for this site. Because, while images are beautiful, they don’t show what an outfit looks like when you move. It also means I really get to flex my photography skills; I haven’t shot in a studio in many years. It forces me to up-my-game with video, effects, social media and how to present content in the most appealing way.
I do this in my real life for my corporate job, but I’ve never taken those skills and applied them to this website. So, while the videos are probably not as polished as my photography skills (please bear with me; it turns out my video equipment is woefully lacking in some aspects) it will grow so much better with time.
Here is just a taster of what is to come. In total we have done 8 trends in greater focus, and given each trend it’s own styling to really highlight what makes it so great. I’ve also put a lot more effort and work into the hair, make-up, nails and accessories to really give a complete look.
The first of the trends will drop tomorrow morning, and I’ll tell you now it’s going to be acid wash. So, don’t forget, add a bookmark, subscribe to my site and come check it out tomorrow. A new trend for the lookbook will drop every two days for the next two weeks. It’s gonna be awesome!
