A Mary Katrantzou dreamland

A Mary Katrantzou dreamland

Hello world,

I came across these beautiful images of Mary Katrantzou pieces and it’s made me even more excited for the new Topshop collaboration. H&M might win with the big names they pull in every year, but I doubt even they can beat the clout that this Topshop collaboration brings when it drops in the springtime.

So I was rather excited when I came across these paintings by Erik Madigan Heck.

Erik Madigan Heck, a New York based photographer has not only photographed the entire collection, he has also created these hyper real images that show of the print and bold colours that make a Mary Katrantzou piece.

You should check out his previous series with Mary Katrantzou, “Surreal Planes” done with the autumn/winter 2011 collection.

I so can’t wait for the Topshop collaboration. What do you guys think of the paintings?

Dior Couture in weighty tome confection

Hello world,

So I’m sure you’re all well aware of the new fashion coffee table book that’s just hit the shops. I’m not usually one for paying much attention to these types of book, what with them being ridiculously heavy and far too expensive for my liking, but this one’s a real treat.

It’s the new Dior Couture book done in collaboration with Patrick Demarchelier. He in itself is an amazing fashion photographer, but to hear he’s photographed my favourite couture house is a double bonus. These brand new photos highlight the couture pieces from this house’s archives in ways that really bring a freshness to the house of Dior’s long and illustrious career.

So here are some of my favourite images from the book, and in case you’re reading this Mum/boyfriend; this would look really great on my coffee table!

So which one is your favourite? Mine is the image with the aquamarine tulle creation where Galliano based his entire collection on florals. It was my favourite ever couture show and my favourite image now.

Christmas Wish List Item number 1

Christmas Wish List Item number 1

Hello world,

This is just a quick post, as I’ve been ridiculously busy with shoots for the blog all day.

I spotted this dress in Selfridges today and fell in love with it. But since it’s All Saints it’s probably well out of my price range.

Maybe I’ll put it on my Christmas list and my boyfriend or Mum will have pity on me and buy it.

Also isn’t it just so pretty out with the Christmas decorations everywhere?

This is a shot of an alleyway off Oxford street and it’s so lovely. Pity my iPhone can’t capture the colours properly.

Until then,

Nicole Scherzinger and Las Pozas in Mexico

Nicole Scherzinger and Las Pozas in Mexico

Hello world,

Lately I’ve been obsessed with Nicole Scherzinger’s new song ‘Try With Me’. Not because of the song, even though it is a pretty catchy dance song, but because of the video. I love it when pop acts do videos that take their inspiration from editorial shoots, and this one is an absolute beauty.

I am in love with this location. It’s called Las Pozas near the village of Xilitla in Mexico and it is the work of Surrealist artist Sir Edward James, when he wanted to created an Eden in the jungle. Ridiculously hard to get to, and something like 7 hours north of Mexico city, this is definitely on my wishlist of places I want to visit in my lifetime.

As videos go, this is definitely one of my favourites right now.
I really seem to have a thing for floaty ethereal dresses and locations and I’ve always wanted to go into a jungle since I was a small child, which is ironic considering I’m deathly afraid of snakes ad jungles are full of them.
So whether this dream will ever become a reality remains to be seen, but a girl can dream.
By the way wouldn’t a rave in a location like that be the coolest thing ever? Just imagine some seriously heavy beats and an amazing light show reflecting off the surrealist structures as the light disappears into the dark jungle. I have to give serious props to the director and cinematographer who came up with this concept.
Have a look at some of the screen-caps from the music video and tell me what you think of the location.

Movember, movember

Movember, movember

Hello world,

It’s the month of November once more, which means by this point men all over the country will be halfway through growing their lovely moustaches for Movember. While October’s Breast Cancer month might get all the publicity, Movember is the one where you can act a little silly for it, while still participating in a valuable cause.

20111121-164338.jpg

That’s exactly what I’ve done, even if I look absolutely ridiculous, but you can look surprisingly foolish in the name of charity.

20111121-165005.jpg

Urban Outfitters have also gotten in on the act by selling Movember novelties from talking moustache keyrings to necklaces, bed-linen and hip flasks.

So get involved in such a worthy cause and do your part on the Movember website.

Until then,
