The Trends: Autumn/Winter Accessories Trends

In my opinion an outfit is made, not just by the clothes we wear, but the accessories we choose. A great coat or a beautiful dress can only take you so far; it’s the shoes, the bags, the jewellery and other accessories that takes your beautiful piece and turns it into a cohesive finished outfit.

And boy, do we have a lot to choose from for this autumn/winter season. Some pieces are directly correlating to the major fashion trends for this season, some are continuing on from previous years, and some just seem to exist in their own bubble. Whether you want to embrace the full aprés ski trend through the use of snoods and moon boots, or you’re not ready to give up your chain bags yet, or you’re in love with flatforms and hobo bags, we have you covered.

Come read on for a curated list of the top 10 accessories trends for autumn/winter and find something exactly for you.

1

Long Boots – The concept of knee-high boots are not revolutionary for the autumn/winter season, but what has changed is the idea that these need to be high heeled. While knee high boots were big all over the runways, there’s now the added option of choosing flat versions too.

Left to right: Christian Dior, Tom Ford,  Louis Vuitton, The Row, Courreges and Etro.

2

Printed Tights – Versace led the way with the printed tights trend this season, but they weren’t the only ones. Fendi, Marine Serre and Chanel weren’t far behind. This trend if perfect for those two hate dealing with cold legs but don’t want to give up cute short skirts and dresses.

Left to right: 3.1 Phillip Lim, Chanel, Fendi, Versace and Marine Serre.

3

Head Scarves – I love how designers and design houses are finally embracing the concept of creating more modest fashion. Not all fashion needs to be salacious or sexy at all times, and the head scarves are a great alternative for hair coverings for this winter.

Left to right: Max Mara, Nehera, Versace, Paco Rabanne, Preen by Thornton Bregazzi and Roksanda.

4

XXL Bags – Oversized bags are not going anywhere, but they seemed to have been supersized for this season. Now seen as a specific statement piece, rather than a larger tote to hold all your things, some of these bags are half a person’s size.

Left to right: 16Arlington, Fendi, Aknvas, Marni, Tod’s and Lemaire.

5

Chain Bags – Chain detailing on accessories isn’t going anywhere for this autumn/winter season. Though they aren’t necessarily the primary focus of the bags anymore. Choose from long delicate chains, painted oversized ones or chunky gold chains for a bag that suits you.

Left to right: Longchamp, Acne Studios, Louis Vuitton, Stella McCartney, Ulla Johnson and Valentino.

6

Masks – It’s surprising that this trend hasn’t dominated more on the runways given our current circumstances. But we’ll probably still be wearing masks for some occasions for the next year, so might as well choose some incredibly fashion-forward styles.

Left to right: Marine Serre, Miu Miu and Rick Owens.

7

Flatforms – The flatforms found on the runways are another homage to the nineties trend. Whether you’re a fan of this style of footwear, or just like adding a couple more inches to your height, these shoes are guaranteed to make you stand tall.

Left to right: Prada, Givenchy, Molly Goddard, Schiaparelli, Simone Rocha and Erdem.

8

Snood – Embrace the ski trend with this fabulous way of keeping your head warm this winter. Whether the snood is in a patterned knit, cable knit or woven into a longer scarf, this is one trend that is going to come in handy for the winter months.

Raf Simons, Miu Miu, Alyx, Moschino, Balmain and Ambush.

9

Hobo Bags – All things seventies are back in fashion, including hobo bags. Found on the runways, they come in a variety of shapes, textures, prints and colours.

Left to right: Dsquared2, Balmain, Nanushka, Tod’s, Versace and Chloé.

10

Moon Boots – Keep your feet warm and cosy this season with these incredibly stylish and cosy boots. Their names alternate from moon boots to ski boots, have fur or sheepskin in the inside, but all of them are perfect for the freezing winter months.

Left to right: Miu Miu, Ottolinger, Dolce & Gabbana, Kenzo, Chanel and Chloé.
