The Shoot

The Shoot: Seaside Pastels

There’s a bit of universal rule in fashion, that pastels are for springtime only. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that usually when we come out of winter, it takes the eye a bit to adjust to the high saturation colours of summertime, so we gravitate for an in-between shades. It’s also the perfect colour to encapsulate the world coming back to life.

But something’s happened to our usual interpretation of pastel colours for springtime. Suddenly it’s not fashionable to wear them in springtime, but in the summer. When the days are hot and vibrant. Maybe it’s the pandemic, throwing out all our usual fashion rules. Maybe we’re just a bit behind this year on what colours should be worn when.

So it struck me as rather odd, that I was reading in the fashion magazines that pastels should be worn in high summer. And I was curious to try it out.

This entire shoot is based around a couple of items I spotted on the Na-kd website. They’re a brand I’ve really become obsessed with, as to me they’re the new ASOS. They have quite a selection of other brands, they have some really nice influencer collaborations, and their website doesn’t make you feel like you’re drowning in options, like ASOS does. In fact it’s actually what’s put me off ASOS for the last few years. This over-abundance of choice.

So, I’ve been racking up quite a selection of clothing from Na-kd, and it was during one of these trawls that I came across both the maxi skirt and the dress from this shoot. And you know how I talked about their nice influencer collaborations? This was with a German influencer I’d never heard of before, but I really fell in love with the pieces. The influencer’s name was Hanna Schönberg, in case you were wondering.

While on a recent family trip out of London to the south coast, I thought I’d do an impromptu shoot by the beach wearing these pieces, styled with the emphasis being on the pastel shades.

The end result is this beautiful and light combination of outfits that work incredibly well in the morning sunlight on the beach, and they also highlighted my new bag purchases beautifully. So, as you can see, I’ve been raiding more than just the Na-kd website for new pieces. 🙂
