The Shoot

The Shoot: Queen of Hearts, part 2

Channel your inner Queen of Hearts this Valentine’s season, by embracing the heart prints, delicate whites and bold red accents.

This is the second outfit from the Queen of Hearts shoot.

Let me talk for a minute about how I found the location and made it work for this shoot. How I found these trees, was on a family walk through Greenwich park, and my hubby, who is becoming amazingly perceptive with spotting interesting locales to use for future shoots, pointed out these ancient, gnarly and amazing trees in the middle of the park. And he’s right; they are perfect for a shoot like this one. Originally they were supposed to be used for a moodier shoot with bright coloured ballgowns, but I’m kinda glad that shoot fell through and I used the location for this one. With the dawn sun hitting the trees, it just created the most amazing lighting to work with. I suppose from a photography standpoint the fact that it was -1 Celsius that morning helped with the light, but it was an absolute pain to shoot in. But in the end it was worth it for images like these.

The outfit here is this amazing ASOS EDITION white sequined blazer and matching pants, that apart from being quite weighty because of all the sequins, is marketed on their website as bridal. But don’t let that put you off, as they are both really gorgeous to wear. I wanted to turn up the red accents for this outfit, so I’m wearing an old red lace bralet underneath from H&M from a few years ago, a simple red fabric belt (please don’t ask me from where) and my trusty Hermes Birkin, which does not come out for shoots often enough. But it’s a vibrant red, so it had to make an appearance for this shoot!

The last thing I wanted to point your attention to, was actually my nails which you can see in the second-last image. They’re purple glitter heart print on the tips and I’m in love with them! Can you believe they’re Primark and only cost me a quid. I wish I’d bought more of them now, as they come out so well when you trim them down! No matter how much my style has grown and become more sophisticated with age, I still love a good Primark bargain! 😀
