Inspiration for ‘The Shoot’ Mirror Mirror

Hello world,

Happy Easter everybody! I hope everybody has a good day, you eat lots of chocolate and enjoy the time with your family. I will be spending the morning controlling a hyperactive one-year old and cooking a massive Easter dinner for our little family.
So here’s today’s Inspiration post; a little something pretty to get you inspired.

The main inspiration for yesterday’s ‘Look of the Day’ shoot, Mirror Mirror was an editorial from Harpers Bazaar UK September 2010. Shot in Venice, it featured Vanessa Hegelmaier and was shot by Miles Aldridge. I loved the dark gothic tone and the complex styling, the blue lighting and serious tone. I really wanted to do something like that myself, and with the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, it seemed the perfect location.

The Royal Naval College was built by the famed British architect sir Christopher Wren, the same man who designed St. Paul’ Cathedral in London, and the entire site is protected by UNESCO for its heritage value. The buildings are part of the English Baroque period, famous for their neoclassical styles used. I could think of no better place to shoot at than this place rich in English history.

Here are some other metallic themes that inspired the shoot. I wanted to focus on the silvery aspect of the trend, the shimmering of the metal in the light.

Eight years in, and still killing this fashion game. Now a mother, wife, professional-by-day and part-time blogger in between, I still love blogging, producing fashion shoots and curating this blog.
My interests lie in producing high editorial-style content, shooting in grand and unique locations, make-up shoots and doing more studio shoots that really push the boundaries.
I'm open to collaborations and ideas, so please message me.
