The Quest for the Perfect Workwear Outfit

Hello world,

For those of you not following this blog, I’ve been interning for the past few months with Irish Tatler (and for those of you outside of Ireland, that’s the best Irish fashion magazine. I’m not hooting my own horn here, the ABC’s put it as the top 3rd magazine sold in the country). In between answering emails and phone calls, shooting off to the different shoots and picking up items, I’ve been wrestling with what to wear for the office.

The thing is I’m one of the youngest in the office at 25 and while thankfully everyone here is very relaxed with the dress code, it’s put me in a real pickle as to what to wear. I don’t do monochrome shift dresses or plain trousers, as everyone else in the working world seems to do, and walking around in a white shirt and smart skirt makes me look and feel about forty. I’m young, but how do you translate that into chic, appropriate workwear without looking silly or too casual?

I’m in luck, as we are currently working on our May issue and I’ve been tasked with compiling the workwear section to go along with our editorial shoot, which is again themed around workwear.

At first I gaped at my editor and thought I would have to be the worst suitable person to source and compile the top 25 workwear pieces, but she’s given me a brilliant opportunity.

If you don’t know, then learn!

This also proved to be quite hard to pull off keeping it within my own style, because what’s the point in wearing an amazing outfit, if you’re not comfortable in it? My dress sense is bold and bright but classic. I sometimes call it Victoria Beckham on acid at a rock concert, because I do seem to have a bit of an obsession with studs and spikes. I love simple shapes, a-line skirts and ridiculously high stiletto heels, but how to translate that into workwear that shows my style?

So here I’ve compiled a set of fantasy outfits in the quest for the perfect workwear.
