The Fashion Nomad Anniversary: 6 Years On

Hello everyone.

Today I thought I’d do a special post for the sixth anniversary of this blog. I usually don’t bother celebrating all the years that passed with this blog, but I’m feeling in a particularly nostalgic mood today.

When I got the announcement by WordPress that my blog was 6 years old, I honestly wasn’t expecting it. I never seem to remember when this blog was started because it took it a good year before it developed its own identity. For example for the first year there are only a handful of photos on the blog of me. At first it was just about documenting beautiful shoots, projects I worked on during my Masters or internships, or collections I particularly loved from the high street. It took a good year before I ever started doing shoots of my looks and even longer until they developed into what you get today.

So to celebrate its evolution I thought I’d go into my archives and pull out some great images, starting with the one below. Can you believe this is the first time I appear on the blog? The image is from November 2010 on the day the H&M for Lanvin collection dropped and I was delighted with myself that I managed to snag both the gorgeous yellow dress and this wonderful red coated necklace.

By showing off my new find, I inadvertently made my very first appearance, and God do I look fresh-faced and young in it! Even more cool is the fact I still have that necklace. It truly was worth the extortionate price it seemed at the time!

I'm wearing the new red ornamented necklace from Lanvin loves H&M The next image is from my official first shoot I ever done. Back then they were called ‘Look of the Day’ and this one is from the 11th May 2011. As all my earliest images were, it was shot by my mum and it was taken on our last trip up to Donegal before I emigrated two months later. I didn’t know it at the time, but that trip would become incredibly special and important to me as it was also the last time I would see alive, a man I considered my step-dad.

But on to happier memories. I will still say it to this day, even though it was my first time in front of a camera where I was the main focus, my mum was able to make me at ease so much this image looks completely natural. Cheers Mam!

IMG_0910AAThe third and final image from the archives is this selfie before selfies were even a thing. Hah! See I can be with it! 😛 It was something I toyed around with for a while in May 2011 while doing my internship at Irish Tatler. I was very fortunate to be working in Dundrum and their massive shopping centre was only a 15 minute walk away so on my lunch hour I would often go browsing through the shops. Back then I was too poor to go shopping half the time, but I took this photo in the changing rooms of Zara because I was supremely proud of my outfit for the day.

This idea of documenting what I wore every day never stuck, but it’s such a cute photo from a bygone era in this blog. Lastly can I just point everyone’s attention to the smartphone in my hand. This was before iPhones became a thing and the best smartphone on the market was still this Nokia N70. With the exception of the apps it is to this day still my favourite phone of all time. Its camera is better than that on an iPhone 6S, it also used micro SD cards for storage and it had a keyboard that flipped both ways. The thing was amazing!

Sorry, rant over. 🙂

So that’s my little trip down memory lane. Here’s to another 6 years and God knows where I’ll end up then! 🙂
