The Shoot: Late Summer Lavender Day

I’ve been wanting to shoot in a lavender field for ages; ever since I saw it on one of the blogs I follow. It looks so serene and beautiful and I didn’t think I would get a chance to living in the UK. But that’s the beauty of living in London, you can literally find anything you want on your doorstep. Case in point this beautiful lavender field outside of London in the village of Banstead called Mayfield Lavender Farm which is open to the public. It’s a little out of the way of my usual shooting locations, but it had to be done before all the lavender finished flowering.

While I’d always known I wanted to shoot here, finding the right outfit was a lot harder to find. It’s such a structured and beautiful location, it needs something feminine and preferably in dress form, but flowy dresses just weren’t in fashion this summer. Thankfully, I managed to find this H&M Trend dress while shopping on a Saturday in Stratford and I knew I had the perfect piece. You can always rely on H&M Trend to come through for you when facing a wardrobe dilemma.

I don’t think I can adequately describe the scent while doing this shoot; it was absolutely heavenly and so calming. The farm is in the middle of nowhere so it’s nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and not to have to listen to the sound of traffic at all times. I really could have spent an entire day sitting out amongst the lavender, listening to the bees buzzing around me and eating a picnic like so many families were doing too. If you live in around London, it’s definitely worth a visit one day, but if you can go early in the morning or during the week as it does get busy.

I decided to keep the accessories to a minimum; just a gold statement necklace and some colourful rings from Primark and Forever 21. Team the outfit with my Valentino Rockstud in patent black and you have an outfit fit for a lavender field. The great thing is, the colours in the dress, while bold compliment the purple of the lavender.
